Society's definition of maturity [Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005, 9:58 pm]
There are certainly things that bug me in this world, and I try not to sound off about them too often. But here's just one of those things that I don't get: Why are pornographic videos often rated or referred to as "mature"? See, I know a lot of mature people, and to my knowledge none of them attained that status by sitting around watching videos of naked people engaging in perverted activity. Do you really have to be mature to watch porn? Do all mature people watch porn? If you start watching porn, does that automatically make you mature? No, no, and no. Come one now, I understand the reasoning behind the label - to supposedly protect children, or warn adults about the things that certain forms of media contain. But could they pick a different name for it? Something that doesn't appear to equate viewing lewd entertainment with true maturity? I'm 18, so legally I could rent naughty videos now if I wanted to, but I'm not going to. Why? Because I'm mature. So take that, you "mature" video-maker people. *Laura* Miss anything?
