No reality on Earth [Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, 4:44 pm]

The sky gets darker much earlier now, I'm noticing. One minute it still feels like daytime and only a little while later nothing but blackness greets me when I venture to peer out the window.

Yes, it happens every year. Things that happen all the time sometimes fail to get noticed. Which is why it's fun to notice things that other people don't, because when something becomes so commonplace that no one sees it anymore, simply giving it its due notice feels like introducing something completely new.

It is so easy to fall asleep when you're surrounded by soft pillows and blankets, mentally speaking. It's easy to become a slave to pixels instead of what's real. But it's also easy to trick yourself into thinking that you have experienced true reality. No wonder the philosophical elite haven't figured it out yet. I think sometimes even the lowliest and most uneducated person can be closer to the truth than many others, simply by accepting the fact that truth is not something for humans to determine.

That really should take a load off one's shoulders, but so many of us would much rather depend on ourselves sometimes - myself included. We all want credit for discovering some kind of certainty. But as humans, we cannot author, discover, or create certainty. He exists. We can accept Him, or we can not accept Him. That is a very freeing thought. I'm so glad the human race is not in charge of nearly as many things as we think we are...
